The romantic city of Udaipur has a legend behind its origin and it goes like this. Once, MaharanaUdai Singh happened to meet a holy sage when he was on his hunting expedition in the Aravalli Hills. The Sage counseled the King to establish a kingdom in the fertile valley that would be well-protected by the elevated Aravalli Hills. Subsequently, MaharanaUdai Singh laid the foundation stone of Udaipur in 1557 A.D. Udaipur also known as the City of Lakes, Vennace of East has been declared as the number one tourist destination of the World. On arrival check in the Hotel. After breakfast visit City Palace and wandering through its beautiful rooms and apartments, the crystal gallery(great collection of crystals). Later watch The Light & sound show at City Palace. Day 02:- Udaipur – Kumbhalgarh – Mount Abu Morning after breakfast drive to Kumbhalgarh. Kumbhalgarh is the second most important citadel after Chittorgarh in the Mewar region. Cradled in the Aravali Ranges the fort was built in the 15th century by Rana Kumbha. Because of its inaccessibility and hostile topography the fort had remained un-conquered. It also served the rulers of Mewar as a refuge in times of strife. The fort also served as refuge to the baby king Udai of Mewar. It is also of sentimental significance as it is the birthplace of Mewar's legendary King Maharana Partap. The fort is self-contained and has within its amalgam almost everything to withstand a long siege. The fort fell only once that too to the combined armies of Mughal and of Amber for scarcity of drinking water. Many magnificent palaces an array of temples built by the Mauryas of which the most picturesque place is the Badal Mahal or the palace of the clouds. The fort also offers a superb birds view of the surroundings. The fort's thick wall stretches some 36 kms and is wide enough to take eight horses abreast. Maharana Fateh Singh renovated the fort in the 19th century. The fort's large compound has very interesting ruins and the walk around it can be very rewarding. Later drive to Mount Abu. Enroute visit the famous Keoladeo Ghana National Park (Birds Sanctuary). Later drive to fatehpur Sikri. Fatehpur Sikri is 40 kms from Agra and built by Emperor Akbar in 1569 and abandoned after 15 years due to scarcity of water. See the graceful buildings including the Jama Masjid, Tomb of Salim Chisti, Panch Mahal and other Palaces. Later drive to Agra and check in your Hotel. Morning after breakfast visit Delwara JainTemple, Adhar Devi Temple, Trevor's Tank, Guru Shikhar & Achalgarh. Later drive to Jodhpur. Jodpur-Situated at the edge of the Thar Desert on the foothill of a sandstone hillock, Jodhpur is like an oasis in the vast desert. One of the most fascinating cities of Rajasthan ,Jodhpur is encompassed by a 10 km long and high wall with 8 gates and innumerable bastions. The Bishnoi's are a community of Rajasthan who are famous for their rich cultural Rajasthani Life and there true love for nature and animals. Bishnoi Village Safari is the organized to help tourists take a glimpse of rich cultural life of Bishnoi Villages and True Rajasthan. Bishnois are strong lovers of wild animals. It is because of their protection that in Bishnoi dominated areas, deer and antelope(such as blue bulls, black bucks, chinkaras and chowsinghas) are seen grazing peacefully in their fields. Bishnois are known to be very violent and aggressive in protecting trees and wildlife. It is said that if you are a hunter, then the worst thing that could happen to you is to be caught hunting by a Bishnoi. Unlike most Hindu communities, Bishnois bury their dead instead of cremating them. This is because of the strict prohibition on the felling of trees, the wood of which is required for cremation.In October, 1996, Nihal Chand Bishnoi sacrificed his life for protecting wild animals. Day 05:- Jaisalmer – Sam Dunes ( Swiss Tent) Jaisalmer is amongst the last of the former princely kingdoms of Rajputana before the border between India and Pakistan. The people of Jaisalmer believe Lord Krishna prophecied to Arjuna that one of his descendants would establish a kingdom on Trikuta Hill. The Lord's prophecy was fulfilled in 1196 AD when RawalJaisal, a Bhatti Rajput who traced his lineage to Krisnna'sYadava clan, shifted his capital from Lodurva (16 km away) to Trikuta Hill. Jaisalmer earned great wealth and glory in its heyday, because it was strategically located on the most lucrative of trade routes between Central Asian kingdoms and the Far East. Merchants were valued citizens and their houses or havelis are legendary with ornate, intricately carved façades of sandstone. The BhattiRajputs of Jaisalmer grew rich living off the rich caravans that crossed their territory till their days of glory slowly came to an end with the burgeoning of the shipping trade through the port at Mumbai. Jaisalmer's past glories can be seen in its impressive golden fort on Trikuta Hill that dominates the horizon. The fort houses a township with markets, palaces, temples and exquisite carved sandstone havelis. Today, these homes are national treasures and art museums that are still inhabited. This last outpost of the Indian Republic is valued for its heritage as much as for its brave citizens, its people and culture, colorful festivals and crafts have placed Jaisalmer on the world tourist map.
