City Palace Museum
The City Palace Complex is one of the most important tourist attractions on a trip to Udaipur. It is a must visit site with lots of interesting places and structures to see within the complex. The main attraction is the City Palace Museum. The main part of the palace complex including the Zenana Mahal has been converted into a museum displaying a large and an assortment of artifacts, protective gears, weapons, swords, etc. The City Palace Museum is open for public. You will see here an appealing demonstration of a freaky monkey holding a lamp and the portraits of maharajas showing a wonderful array of mustaches. Laxmi Chow is an elegant and beautiful while pavilion in the same zone. Rang Bhawan, Sheesh Mahal, Mor Chowk, Manak Mahal, Laxmi Vilas Chowk, Krishna Vilas, Jagdish Temple, Fateh Prakash Palace, Durbar Hall, Chini Chitrashala, Badi Mahal, Amar Vilas, Gateways, etc are other attractions inside the City Palace Complex. In fact, entire palace is a museum that will definitely lure you.
Jag Mandir
Jag Mandir or Jagmandir Palace built on an island in the middle of Lake Pichola is a spectacular palace known for its garden courtyard. For this reason it is also lovingly known as the Lake Garden Palace. It is also popularly called as the Swarg Ki Vatika or Garden of Heaven. It is the historical place where Shah Jahan took refuge here while revolting against his father. There are an impressive series of beautiful structures including Gul Mahal, Garden Courtyard, Bara Patharon, Zenana Mahal and Kunwar Pada Ka Mahal at this island palace. There is a restaurant at this palace complex which is run by the HRH Group of Hotels.
Lake Pichola
Lake Pichola is the star attraction of Udaipur sightseeing. It is the most popular lake among all the lakes of Udaipur – the City of Lakes. It is named as Pichola because of the nearby Picholi Village. There are two popular islands, Jag Niwas and Jag Mandir, in the picturesque Lake Pichola. Both offer spectacular views of the lake. The Lake Palace (one of the most romantic palaces and hotels in India) is located on the Jag Niwas Island. Jag Mandir is home to Jag Mandir Palace which is known for courtyard and a restaurant run by the HRH Group of Hotels. Mohan Mandir and Asri Vilas are two other islands in the lake. Boating facilities are available on the lake.
Bharatiya Lok Kala Mandal
Bharatiya Lok Kala Mandal is a cultural establishment situated in Udaipur that is involved in researching and understanding folk art, culture, tradition, heritage, songs and festivals of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. It popularizes and propagates folk arts, folk dances and folk literature. It has been a prominent tourist attraction in the city especially among cultural enthusiasts and history buffs. It was established in the year 1952 by Devilal Samar. It also has a museum that displays a collection of folk contents such as rural dresses, puppets, ornaments, masks, folk musical instruments, dolls, folk deities and paintings. It also houses a puppet theatre too where you can see interesting puppet shows.
Bagore Ki Haveli
Bagore Ki Haveli is an old mansion constructed right on the waterfront of the spectacular Lake Pichola at Gangotri Ghat. It was built in the 18th century by Amir Chand Badwa, the Prime Minister of Mewar. There are more than 100 rooms in this building along with various corridors & balconies, courtyards and terraces which display costumes and modern art. The interior of the havelis is noted for glass and mirror work. The two peacocks made from small pieces of colored glasses are examples of fine glasswork. The chambers of royal ladies in the havelis are still depicts the fine frescos of the Mewari style. The haveli is also noted for staging enjoyable performance of Rajasthani dance and music in the evening.
Saheliyon-Ki-Bari
The Saheliyon-Ki-Bari (the Garden of the Maidens) is a major garden and extremely popular tourist space in Udaipur, one of the most romantic and beautiful cities of Rajasthan. Built by Maharana Bhopal Singh, the garden also has a small museum. This beautiful garden was established for 45 young women attendants who accompanied a princess to Udaipur as part of her dowry. The garden is beautifully laid on the banks of the beautiful Fateh Sagar Lake having lotus pools, marble pavilions and elephant-shaped fountains. Saheliyon-Ki-Bari has been one of the most sought after and most visited tourist attractions in the city.
Sajjangarh Fort
Sajjangarh Fort, also called Monsoon Palace or Sajjan Garh Palace, is a hilltop splendid residence in Udaipur – the City of Lakes, overlooking the beautiful Fateh Sagar Lake. This palatial palace was constructed by Maharana Sajjan Singh of the Mewar Dynasty in the year 1884. This is why; it is called as the Sajjangarh Fort or Sajjan Garh Palace. It is also known as Monsoon Palace because it was built basically to see the monsoon clouds and rains surrounding courtside. Today the fort palace reflects the history of Mewar Kingdom. You must see this elegant palace on your Udaipur tour.
Fateh Sagar Lake
Fateh Sagar Lake is another most popular lake in Udaipur after the Lake Pichola. It is a crystal water lake in the midst of tree lined beautiful hills and the smaller Arsi Vilas. There are three beautiful islands in the lake. The largest island is called the Nehru Park and very popular among tourists because of zoon, restaurant, and beautiful ambience. The second island is noted for a beautiful public park with impressive jet water fountains. The third island is known for having Udaipur Solar Observatory.
